Refer a patient to Dr Battista

How to refer a patient for oral surgery or implants, what to include and what happens after the referral.

Dr Eric Battista and his surgical team

For which treatments can you refer a patient to me?

When you refer a patient to me, I accept referrals for oral surgery and implant surgery, from a single difficult extraction to full arch cases. In addition, as a specialist in Oral Surgery I can give a second opinion when you are unsure whether surgery is needed.

What should you include when you refer a patient?

  • The reason for referral and the question you want answered.
  • Recent radiographs: periapical or panoramic views of the area.
  • A CBCT scan if one is available, ideally as DICOM files.
  • The medical history, current medication and allergies, with particular attention to anticoagulants, antiplatelets, bisphosphonates and other bone medications.
  • Relevant dental history and any planned restorative work.
  • The patient’s contact details, preferred clinic and how urgent the case is.

As a result, a complete referral lets me assess the case quickly and avoids asking you or the patient for missing information. Also, please tell me if the patient is very anxious, has particular access needs or prefers to speak Italian. That way, my team can plan the appointment around them.

Treatment planning at consultation when dentists refer a patient to Dr Battista
Every referred patient receives a plan, and the referring dentist receives a report.

How do I send a referral?

In most cases, the simplest route is my RefClin referral page at eb-dental.refclin.ai/refer. There, you can attach radiographs and scans, follow the case and receive my report in the same place. In fact, I founded RefClin precisely to make this step easier for referring dentists.

What happens after you refer a patient?

  1. My team contacts the patient to book a consultation at Worcester Park or Kentish Town.
  2. Then I examine the patient and arrange further imaging if the case needs it.
  3. I explain the options, risks and recovery, and give the patient a written treatment plan.
  4. Once the patient agrees, I carry out the surgery.
  5. After that, I send you a report on the assessment and treatment.
  6. The patient returns to you for the rest of their care. For implants, we agree in advance who will complete the restoration.

Throughout the process, you can also see the status of the case on RefClin. If the plan changes, for example because the CBCT shows less bone than expected, I will let you know before treatment goes ahead.

How should you handle urgent cases?

Please mark urgency clearly in the referral. However, a lesion suspicious of oral cancer should go through the NHS urgent suspected cancer pathway, in line with NICE guidance NG12, rather than a private referral alone. Finally, the clinic addresses are on where I practise.

Frequently asked questions

How do I refer a patient to Dr Battista?

The quickest way is Dr Battista's RefClin referral page at eb-dental.refclin.ai/refer. You can attach radiographs, CBCT scans and the medical history, follow the case online and receive the treatment report in the same place. The patient is then contacted by the EB Dental team to book a consultation.

Will my patient come back to me after treatment?

Yes. Dr Battista treats the surgical part of the case and then returns the patient to you for ongoing care. You receive a report on the assessment and treatment. For implant cases, the restorative phase is agreed with you in advance, so everyone knows who will place the final crown or bridge.

Do I need to send a CBCT scan with the referral?

A CBCT scan is helpful but not essential. Recent periapical or panoramic radiographs are usually enough for the first assessment. If Dr Battista needs three dimensional imaging, for example before implant surgery or the removal of a deeply impacted tooth, the scan can be arranged at the consultation.

Can I ask for a second opinion without full treatment?

Yes. You can refer a patient for an assessment and opinion only, for example to decide whether a wisdom tooth needs removing or whether there is enough bone for an implant. Dr Battista will see the patient, explain the findings and send you a report with his recommendations.
